Performing Arts

Plays
The College Play is open to all age levels and is run by the Theatre Studies students. It is they who design and co-ordinate costumes, make-up, lighting, sound, set, music, dance and stage management of the show. Plays covered range from The Crucible to Cosi, Romeo and Juliet to Demon Barber so the challenge is different each year. Students love to be involved in it and those running it gain a real sense of worth. The plays are staged in the College’s Centennial Hall and many a performance will find ex-students in the audience, reliving the times that they were on stage.

Instrumental Music
Students in the College have the opportunity to learn an instrument from an experienced Music teacher. This program includes voice, piano, percussion, brass and wind instruments and is available in private or group lessons. These lessons are rotated from week to week so that the student does not miss out on a particular subject. The lessons run throughout the day, providing easy access for tuition. Instrumental and voice scholarships are available.

Musicals
The College Musical is open to all age levels. It has a large cast who love the singing and dancing involved. The College musical is directed and staged by staff who love the opportunity to work with students on a completely different level. Musicals in recent years have included Cinderella, Jesus Christ Superstar, West Side Story, Les Miserables, Sound of Music and The Wiz. The musicals have always been an important part of the College’s culture and a feature on the College calendar.

House Performing Arts
'House Performing Arts' is a Mercy Day tradition where each competing House given a theme and put on a performance that includes drama, comedy, dance and song. The students write and perform their own material and perform it to the College community on Mercy Day with the winning House gaining the most points for their House. It’s a lot of fun and a real celebration of youth in all its madcap humour. The competition is as fierce as the fun involved. Other students earn points their Houses by doing the light, sound, followspots and backstage work for the shows.
